In January I will be bringing skills that I have learned from my two jobs together. I work on the Wellbeing Service as a Local Associate Coordinator where I run courses, workshops and socials for young people experiencing mental health problems and I am also a dance artist. I have a wealth of experience in teaching contemporary dance to many different groups of people from older people to toddlers and everything in between. I have seen what a difference dance can make to peoples wellbeing which then led me to create a dance course that was designed specifically to help improve people’s wellbeing. Working with The Garage in Norwich we have successfully got funding from the Norfolk Community Foundation to do this.
Dance can be a great way to improve our wellbeing. It enables people to connect with themselves and others. It is great exercise but doesn’t have the pain and boredom that can come from going to the gym! Dance can help us express ourselves when sometimes we can’t find the right words. In the classes participants will learn simple dance routines that work on strength, flexibility and stamina. There will also be opportunities for participants to improvise and get creative choreographing. Lessons will also involve meditation and relaxation. Classes will finish with a cup of tea and biscuit in the Garage’s lovely café. This will provide a nice social element to the course giving give participants a chance to get to know each other. No experience is necessary just a commitment to attend the whole course.
I hope to see you there!
