Great start for our young Flowing and Glowing Taverham co-designers

Our Taverham Community Ambassadors Programme (CAP) got off to a huge success last Friday. 

The group’s aim is to take social action and to make change within their community, whether that’s on a small scale or globally. The project is youth led, with students from Taverham High School working with us. 

Their projects come under a theme of Flowing and Glowing, which highlights period poverty and the refugee crisis – two topics they’re very passionate about. 

Through research and planning sessions, the youngsters found a UK-based organisation called Bloody Good Period. It focuses on providing support for asylum seekers and refugees who menstruate and cannot afford period products, which are not a luxury but a necessity. 

Last Friday, the group delivered a fantastic bake sale and tombola, which they held on the field at Taverham High School at lunchtime. 

In the lead-up, the group took time planning what they wanted their event to be, what cause or charity they wanted to support and designed posters to advertise it around school. 

After setting up the tables with delicious baked treats and exciting tombola prizes the team raised a whopping £242.10, which will be donated to Bloody Good Period. 

Community producer Sarah Witcomb said: “The group worked really hard as a team and created a brilliant event for the school to enjoy, while raising money for a good cause. We’re extremely grateful for the support for this project so far and can’t wait to see what they’re able to achieve in the next event.” 

This was the first of two events the group are running as part of their Flowing and Glowing project. The second larger event will be a day-long festival held here at The Garage, Norwich. 

Watch out for more about that soon but expect live music, Zumba, yoga and stand-up comedy as well as life stories, face-painting, bubble tea and much more. 

CAP is co-design collaborative project part funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation and Clarion Futures, and supported by the DCMS, National Lottery Community Fund, HAYN Volunteering Academy and the #iwill foundation.
