At The Garage, young people aren’t just participants, they’re collaborators who help shape what happens in the building. Our Youth Board spends their time exploring ideas, taking part in creative workshops and challenging us to think differently about everything; from the language we use to the way our spaces feel.
This year’s Youth Board consists of Poppy, Naima, Pippa, Florence, Isis and Joey, who are all leading three exciting projects: a Silent Disco, the Young Promoters programme, and GarageFest 2.0. They joined the Youth Board to make new friends and gain experience in a professional environment, but it’s become much more than that. They describe it as “a safe community where we can voice our opinions and suggest ideas where we can make a difference.”
They really do make a difference. From raising money through GarageFest to introducing sensory boxes to our studios that make the building more inclusive, the Youth Board has already influenced the way young people experience The Garage. They’ve learned how to plan events from scratch, work as a team and how to make sure young people’s voices are genuinely heard.
One of their biggest projects this year is the upcoming Silent Disco! The theme is whimsical and enchanted, with a playlist that jumps from musical theatre to pop to Disney favourites. What makes it even more magical, is that it’s designed especially for young families, offering a fun space where everyone can enjoy music in their own way.
Being able to run their own programmes has empowered the group to take ownership of their ideas and see them come to life. It’s youth leadership in action, and one of the reasons they encourage others to join. If you’re thinking about it, their advice is simple: “Go for it – you’ll learn new skills, meet new people and help shape the future of The Garage!”
If they had to describe themselves in three words, they’d choose creative, welcoming and empowering. The Silent Disco? Magical and fun, with a sprinkle of whimsy. More than anything, they hope people leave the event feeling joyful and connected, knowing The Garage is a place where young people truly belong.
So when is the Silent Disco? NEXT WEEK! (9 April 2026) Don’t wait around, book your tickets now!
