Give Norfolk’s disadvantaged young people the break they deserve in 2023

What would you do if I said you could change a young person’s life right now?

The Garage Trustā€™s mission is simple. To use dance, drama, and music to give disadvantaged youngsters across Norfolk a brighter future.Ā

Youth support organisations are under immense pressure. More than half of those surveyed for a 2021 UK Youth report were operating at a reduced level. Nearly a quarter had been forced to close, either temporarily or permanently.

There are now nearly 800 less youth centres than ten years ago. In the 2016 State of the Nation report, social mobility in Norwich, Kingā€™s Lynn and West Norfolk was among the worst in England. Limiting youngstersā€™ prospects. Norwich itself was second from bottom.

Thatā€™s where our Smiles for Big Breaks fundraising campaignĀ for disadvantaged and vulnerable children and young people at The Garage in Norwich and The Workshop in Kingā€™s Lynn comes in.

Since 2014, our support team has helped thousands of children and young people, with 90% of participants seeing a positive change to their lives thanks to our creative arts programmes.Ā

Every one of them has been referred to us through our network of partners including schools, statutory bodies, local authorities, and charities like ourselves.Ā Making sure places go to those who need them most.

They get free places on our creative classes programmes, on some of our school holiday programmes and help with associated costs like transport, dancewear and equipment.Ā Ā

So many more need our help. Every pound you raise or donate will provide a welcoming, fun, supportive, safe space for these youngsters to be themselves. To boost their confidence, their hopes, their sense of belonging, of pride in themselves, and give them the life skills to unlock their potential.

If you or any groups with which youā€™re involved are looking for a charity to fundraise for, please think of us too.Ā

If youā€™ve donated before, thank you. Your contribution is making someoneā€™s life better. If youā€™d like to help us fundraise, visit our donate page.Ā
