Of 100 million children currently living on the streets worldwide, 40% are in Latin America.
Betún tells the story of one of these children. It explores the loneliness and dangers endured by those who have no choice but to live outside. Without words and told entirely through music, masks and movement, Teatro Strappato present a deeply poignant piece that has resonated with audiences worldwide. Through the everyday life and dreams of the titular character they bring out the indifference, the darkness, but also the humanity that lies within the streets.
Teatro Strappato are an international, Berlin-based company who have performed across Europe and South America. Betún was created from interviews carried out in Latin America with children living and working on the streets and first shown as part of the Festival Off d'Avignon 2016. It has since toured numerous other venues and festivals, going on to be named 'Best Play' at the Molina de Segura International Theatre Festival 2017.
This will be the first time Betún is performed in the UK.
