These free taster weeks have been designed to give you the full experience of professional performing arts training at Higher Education level.
Each of your days will be split into a morning and an afternoon session, with sessions typically running for 3-4 hours with regular short breaks. This will give you a good idea of the kind of intensity you can expect on a typical HE performing arts course. Each session has been designed to reflect a unit you might study on a performing arts course, meaning you will participate in sessions on various topics, including;
- - Movement for actors
- - Contemporary dance
- - Ensemble singing
- - Jazz dance for musical theatre
- - Health and fitness for performers
- - Voice and speech
Some of these sessions will be delivered by the team here at The Garage, and some will be delivered by visiting lecturers from other institutions, giving you experience of what performing arts training looks like at different HE institutions. On the final day, you will then consider what you have learnt over the week and use this to develop a performance piece; showcasing your skills and talents to an invited audience.
This week is a fantastic opportunity to experience performing arts training at HE level, as well as an excellent chance to build your skills in a professional theatre environment. Over the week you will also meet a number of tutors from different institutions who will be able to offer advice and guidance, and answer any questions you may have. If you are considering continuing your training in performing arts, this taster week will help you take that next crucial step, and set you on the path to your performing arts career.
