A Contemporary dance technique class aimed at over 50's
What techniques are taught in this class? Contemporary dance release-based technique
What skills are developed/improved? Mobility, strength, coordination, dance technique, fitness, flexibility, release of tension
How is a class structured/what do we do in a class? Class begins with an exercise in and around the room to warm up whole body and raise heart rate.
Then we do several exercises in the centre to mobilise the joints and spine, warm up large muscle groups, and warm up and strengthen feet. We then do one of two exercise from the corner, so travelling across the room these are like mini travel dances. We then work on a dance. Each week we repeat the warm-ups and add to the dance so by the end of half a term we have a long sequence which we all perform together. The class changes every half term.
Why would I come to this class? If you have always danced and want to continue in a safe supported environment that is mindful of older bodies or if you want to return to dance. To meet others, to enjoy moving to have some fun and to improve your fitness.
What level is this class - beginner, improver, intermediate or advanced? Open
