This is a creative contemporary dance class covering basic technique exercises and choreography. Children will work both individually and as part of a group to create their own movement in response to different themes, tasks, imagery and props.
What techniques are taught in this class? Release based contemporary technique, though during warm ups basic ballet positions and vocabulary is referred to, to show evolvement of those classical moves.
What skills are developed/improved? Movement memory, balance, co-ordination, communication, expression, creativity.
How is a class structured/what do we do in a class? First class of term begins with introductions and using dance based games as a warm up, following this each week the warm up focuses on energising and mobilising muscles and joints.
Technique exercises will follow the warm up and reflects that week’s creative work. When the group are working creatively this could be as an individual or as part of a group, a theme for the term is outlined and tasks and instructions are layered on each week to develop this choreography.
Why would I come to this class? This class is good for introducing children to the question of ‘what is contemporary dance?’ and if you enjoy being creative and have a good imagination these sessions allow you to explore this further and dance in your own way.
What level is this class – This class is an open level, beginner level for most, those with experience can be challenged further by the tutor when working independently during creative tasks.
What should I wear to the class? Something comfortable which you can easily move in, ideally clothing would stop at the ankle to avoid tripping, and bare feet.
£99 for the full 12 week term. Payment will be taken at time of booking.
