Sessions focus on broadening technical skill, quality of movement, musicality and confidence.
What techniques are taught in this class? Ballet technique (non-syllabus)
What skills are developed/improved? You will be able to quickly pick up exercises and focus on maintaining good posture, turn out of the legs, arm shape and flow. Exercises at the barre and in the centre will push co-ordination, balance, core strength, movement memory, ballet vocabulary, fitness and flexibility. You will learn longer and more complex exercises and dance sequences. You will learn Adage (slow controlled movements), turns and pirouettes, various travelling steps, small, medium and big jumps.
How is a class structured/what do we do in a class? Class starts at the barre then continues into the centre. Classes start briskly and quickly increase in pace; the movements you do at the end of the class will be more energetic than at the beginning. Each class starts with a warm-up and ends with a warm down.
Why would I come to this class? You have some experience of ballet and want a class that will help you become more finely tuned, stronger technically and more confident with your style and musicality.
What level is this class - beginner, improver, intermediate or advanced? Improver
What should I wear to the class? Close fitting leggings or tights, T-shirts or leotard, layers of clothes advisable. Ballet shoes (soft flat canvas or leather) for main class. Please tie up long hair. No jewellery that will catch.
