We are now well into the summer, with another successful round of Music Foundations classes having been completed.
Music Foundations is a 10-week course aimed at engaging young people from challenging circumstances in the arts. Young people are referred in to us, using the forms which can be found in the referral network section, on our website. Each week the group learn a new music skill and towards the end of the course they can then learn an existing song or create their own. The focus of the sessions is to help the participants gain confidence, and improve teamwork skills, while at the same time engaging in a fun, musical and creative environment.
There is a group aimed at 7-11 year olds and another for 12-18 year olds. And for both groups there is the opportunity for them to progress onto our class programme through the Big Breaks scheme after the course has finished.
For those coming through the older sessions there has now been a new progression class added called Musician Development Programme for beginners. I am really excited about this starting in September as it will be the perfect opportunity for those to continue their musical journey here at The Garage. I’m looking forward to being the support in these sessions, and seeing how the young people develop their musical skills, while having fun and making new friendships!
For the younger group, there are Ukulele classes to move onto, and I’m pleased to say we have five people progressing onto these classes, new for next term.
Meanwhile, I’m busy getting another round of young people booked onto the new Music Foundations groups for September!
